You Can’t Be a Creator Without Also Being a Destroyer

There’s something uncomfortable about the romantic notion of creation as being purely additive. To create is to form, invent, add to the world. But when I think about my own creative process (in design, in painting, in photography, even in writing this Substack) I realize that destruction isn’t just part of creation. It might be the most critical part.
